Well, here you go, from them over there... The programm yout told us is not using the normal DVB-Standard like BBC HD does.
Actually we can't say if this will be integrated in the future because our sales market is only middle europe.
Best Regards Johann Kimpfbeck
makes you wonder why most other boxes can be tweaked and the kathrein can't. i think that's the end of this one at least for the forseeable future. let's hope that C4HD doesn't go the same way: that will make the kathrein box a useless commodity for those looking for an alternative to freesat

I find it disturbing they only want to sell to middle europe but are then selling these boxes to UK distributors. What we need is to see if the DM800 can pick it up. Also the transmission itself isn't a constant one from what I have read but only available at certain times via the red button on the freesat box. The problem with them doing that is that it then allows them to hop it around different transponders as they want so making it hard for anyone other than a freesat box to pick it up consistently regardless of whether the box is capable or not.

hi mytoza I find it disturbing they only want to sell to middle europe but are then selling these boxes to UK distributors I agree. I think many people had no idea when they spent their hard-earned cash that this would be a problem... or that Kathrein would come up with such a poor response. What we need is to see if the DM800 can pick it up. Dont' get the connection You know, what really irks me is that there are instructions on various forums for a huge quantity of non-freesat boxes that receive itvhd (Fortecstar Passion, Clarke Tech 5000, Technomate TM 6800HD, Humax HDCI-2000, Maxdigital 225S, etc etc. but not the one I was recommended by a UK dealer. The red button theory is interesting but I've not read anyone reporting problems.

Your list of boxes from what I can see does not include any HD linux boxes so the connection with DM800 is purely speculative in that if it manages it then an HD linux box can do it and hopefully we will be able to emulate that on the Kathi
The red button issue is a fact in that that is the only way to access ITV HD on a freesat HD box and so the service is quite likely broadcast as a data stream rather than a tv stream. This would be similar to the ways sly broadcasts its red button content I believe. Also it isn't a constant stream but only occasional for major events such as the footie, now whether or not they hop the signal around I don't know but it certainly well within the realms of possibility as all it would take is for the red button signal to tell the box to tune to this frequency when pressed and that could be anywhere on Astra or Eurobird.
As I said keep your eyes on the DM800 forums as well 'cos if they manage it then there is hope for the Kathi to.

Im still in the process of figuring it out for the DM800 so if I get anywhere I will post my results ehre and what I had to do.
Surely just a codec that needs plugging in?!

Now possible on the DM800 by changing the lamedb file - I know the file structure if different on the Kathy buy hopefully it`ll give you some clues how it might be done on that unit.

I re-requested more information from Kathrein as to why they would not support UK customers. Their response was pretty pathetic -
Dear ...
the ITV HD program is not an official feed from the satellite provider ses astra.
So we can't tell you if it's possible to integrate this in a new software.
Best Regards Bernhard Hauser
I'm quite happy to keep pestering them, but I am not very technically minded so I think this is possibly it.

And its still pretty pathetic. I posted up the solution for the DB800 on the ufs910 forum where AAF guy Harryhase hangs out sometimes asking if anyone knew of a way to incorporate the solution into the Kathi but there has been no response
