I've got three questions to DM800 owners:

1. Can this thing do timeshift?
2. Is it possible to play Divx on it?
3. What clone is the best (and where from)? Not paying for the original, sorry - too expensive.

the dm800 clones are nice but you are stuck to the image that matches the bootloader that's on the sim card inside.
use an image that uses a diff bootloader and from what Ive heard you brick your box.

the clones do have most of the functions the originals do ie time shift , record , etc
the images are few and far between also compaired to an original.

buying and original is a large layout but worth every penny i was contemplating going for a dm8000 but have decided just to get another dm800hd instead as soon as Ive sorted out me 3d stuff.
and when TM get there tm800 sorted ill get another of those so i can put one of each in the 2 rooms so no remote conflict

The 800 clone route is ok ish, but as posted above, there are limitation,s the DM800 is very good, but as you say expencive, and the VU+does beat the dm800
The TM800 as yet, is,nt really there yet, and as far as the "unamed box" goes, its a very good unit, the VU+ duo is about £390 (dual tuner) and the solo is about £270 , and does every thing the tm9100/dm800 and what ever else can do

    @ TheRookie

    what units do you have??
    is HD a requirement?
the unit nearest your costings is the VU+ solo, with dreamelite on it, and the right coonections, that will do the job
alternitly, an old dm 500, or the good old 9100

The units I've got are all listed in my signature with the exception of Fortec Star 4400 about which I still didn't managed to make up my mind.
HD is not a requirement although my become one in a couple of years. The VU+ Solo looks good but I am not going to spend on a satbox more than 200 quid.
So I guess if I could find some DM600 clone for below 100 quid it would do. I take it going DM800 clone route is not a wise move given SIM cards and all that.

    @TheRookie

opps, I should have looked at your sig, but the reason I asked about the HD side of things, is that you posted in an HD section, so my recomends were based on that

you can get dm500/7020/600 units (orig units) for around £50 upwards, as quite a few have gone HD
